You as a parent can do so much to develop your child's creative spirit. When a child is being creative he is able to mix imagination, reasoning and curiosity and this will change him and his life. You may think of a child being creative just because he can perhaps draw well or play a certain musical instrument, this is not entirely true. A child who takes a stick and beats on the back steps is being creative, making his own music. When the brain of a child is used for creativity it is actually simulating the nerve cells.

When a child is creative he is communicating and thinking, this is so very important to his development. If children at the ages of say the first, second grade or below those years are allowed to be creative and use their imagination they won't ever tell you they are bored.

One suggestion would be to encourage them to make birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, etc. instead of buying them. When for example a grandparent is given a gift made by a grandchild it is truly treasured. This will teach the child that making a gift for someone shows how much they love that person. Gifts made from the heart are so much better than purchased in a store.

There are so many classes available for children,

especially summer programs at your local recreation center for arts and crafts and music classes also. There are so many lessons available for a child in these young years if they show an interest in tap dancing, tumbling, drawing, etc. This increases their creativity by learning and doing various projects.

When a child makes a project and you look at it and really don't understand it, don't try to change it, ask the child to explain what they are expressing and you'll be surprised at the creativity of a young child.

I would also suggest that you go to your local arts and craft store and stock up on various supplies, have them in the home and your child will be using these items to be creative. Even a small collection of various items would help.

Most of all show your child how very proud you are of their ability to be creative.
